Google wants users of its Google+ social network to use their real names but it looks like the company is changing how the rule would be implemented. The company noticed that a lot of users are violating Google+ common name policy but these are well intentioned and inadvertent.
Google is looking for methods to improve its process regarding how it notifies the users that they are violating Google+ policies and would give the users several ways to remedy it. The company declined to elaborate how the Google+ accounts will be reviewed and suspended.
The company will improve its sign up process to discourage policy violations and plans to give users a better sense of what to expect when the account names are reviewed. Users can list their pseudonyms in the Other names field of their Google Profile. Employment, Occupation, and Education fields can also be used to provide additional data for identification.
Google+ is just a month old and it would add new features to support various use cases, such as minors. Facebook has a similar name policy but Google’s version is more lenient. Google asks its users to give a name that they use in their daily lives.
Google’s name policy lets users allow pseudonyms that would encourage civil communication. This would also give advertisers more reasons to participate in the interaction.
