Netflix Still Dominates Video Streaming Market

Netflix reigns supreme in game consoles and other connected devices while Hulu depends solely on PC-based streaming. This is according to the latest data released by Nielsen. 58 percent of Netflix users watch Apple posts WWDC 2011 keynote video [Streaming Video]” href=”http://itpopular.com/apple-posts-wwdc-2011-keynote-video-streaming-video/”>videos on mobile or connected devices compared to 11 percent for Hulu. Netflix streaming

All of Netflix’s 25 million subscribers have access to the service on connected devices. This is different for Hulu where non-PC streaming is a premium feature for Hulu Plus. At present, Hulu Plus has a million subscribers.

According to the data, Sony PlayStation 3 game console gets 30 percent of all Netflix traffic. In second place is Xbox 360 with 25 percent. Wii is said to have 10.75 percent of Netflix traffic but it should be noted that the Wii doesn’t support HD streaming, which means Wii users consume less bandwidth.

It doesn’t matter whether Netflix is viewed more on the Wii or the PS3, what is important here is that devices such as Google TV and Apple TV don’t matter to the consumers. They would watch Netflix, Hulu or any other video streaming service on devices that are already available for them. They don’t need additional devices just to stream video content from providers.
